Master Mel Leads a New Year Goal Seminar
By Austin Curtis ·
The holidays are over. So, are you ready to set some new goals and take on new challenges? This year, we started January with two free events designed to help our students do both.
Here's what the challenge and the seminar were about, and what our students learned from Master Mel.
Why we start the year with goals
We believe progress doesn't happen by accident. On the mat, every belt has clear requirements, and students know exactly what they're working toward. That clarity is what keeps them moving forward when training gets hard.
The same idea works off the mat. A clear goal turns a vague wish into a plan. A new year is a natural time to step back, decide what matters most and commit to it.
We also believe goals work best when you don't chase them alone. That's why we set goals as a community. When your classmates know what you're working toward, they help you stay on track, and you do the same for them.
The No Sugar New Year Challenge
To kick things off, we invited everyone to take the No Sugar New Year Challenge: cut out all sugar and all sweeteners, apart from whole fruit, for a few weeks. It's a simple way to clean out the old year and bring in the new with more energy and vibrant health.
Can you do it? Of course you can. And that's the real lesson. A challenge like this isn't only about nutrition. It's practice in discipline, the same discipline that gets you to class on a busy day or keeps you working on a technique until it clicks.
A goal seminar with Master Mel
The challenge was a great prelude to our Goal Seminar, taught by Master Mel. Master Mel is an accomplished martial artist and fitness instructor, and a veteran public speaker who has spoken at TEDx. Her seminar was all about getting inspired and equipped to accomplish your goals, and to make this the year you make things happen.
Master Mel brings the same energy to goal setting that she brings to the mat: clear, practical and encouraging. Both seminars were free, because we believe everyone in our community deserves the tools to make the year a great one.
Small steps, every day
Goals stick when they're broken into small, consistent steps. That's how martial arts works, too. Nobody earns a black belt in a day. They earn it one class, one technique and one good habit at a time.
Whatever your goals are this year, we're here to help you reach them.
