Santa Barbara Dojo Launches a Women's Self-Defense Course

By Austin Curtis ·

Spring is a season of renewal and new life, and that's what we're all about. Back then we were known as Martial Arts Family Fitness, and our promise was the same one we make today: martial arts and fitness classes for the whole family, under one roof, at the same downtown address.

This spring, we focused on helping people start fresh. That meant a new women's self-defense course, a week of camp for kids and a big thank-you to the community that keeps showing up for us.

A season to start fresh

We believe the best time to begin is whenever you decide to. Spring just makes the decision feel natural. Days get longer, routines loosen up and many people are ready to try something new.

Whether you're a parent looking for an activity your child will love or an adult who wants to feel stronger, starting is the hardest step. Our job is to make that step welcoming, with classes for every age and coaches who meet you where you are.

Real Deal Self Defense for Women

Real Deal is an empowerment and personal safety course for women and teen girls of all abilities. It teaches practical techniques developed to counter life-threatening and dangerous situations, and it's spread over a Friday evening and a Saturday so there's time to learn, practice and ask questions.

What we care about most is how it feels to go through it. The course is built so you can develop your inner strength and work through your fears in a supportive environment. Practical skills matter, but so does the confidence that comes from knowing you've practiced them with people who have your back.

Spring Break Camp for kids

Spring break can be a long week for families. Our "Best of the Best" Spring Camp gives kids days full of games and activities at the dojo, with instructors who know how to keep a group active, safe and having fun.

For many children, camp is their first taste of the dojo. They make friends, burn off energy and see what martial arts feels like in a relaxed setting. For parents, it's peace of mind during a week off school.

Thank you, Santa Barbara

Thank you for voting us the best martial arts school in Santa Barbara once again this year! We received the award from both the Santa Barbara Independent and the Santa Barbara News-Press, and we don't take that lightly.

An award like this belongs to our students and families. You train hard, you bring your friends and you make the dojo a place people want to be.

See you on the mat, and here's to a fresh start this spring.
